How To Ask For Criminal Compensation?
How many people get attacked every day in dark alleys? Did it ever happen to you? Let us give you a piece of advice: never think that a criminal assault could never happen to you. As a matter of fact, nowadays nobody can say they are safe, because crime is a big problem, especially in big cities. But you know what? If it does happen to you one day, don’t just stand there and do nothing! You are entitled to compensation! For most victims the hard part is to decide that they want to claim for criminal compensation.
It’s not uncommon for a victim to just try to forget all about the incident, sometimes because of the emotional trauma that it can cause, and they don’t claim their rightful compensation. But when that person decides it’s time to do something about it, then the compensation solicitor is the one who will help you.
The criminal compensation procedure has rules
If you want to claim in the UK, then know that the incident must have occurred after the 1st of August 1964, the incident must have occurred in Scotland, England or Wales, the incident must have occurred within the past two years (some exceptions), you must be the parent, child, husband, wife or partner or the person who died or has been injured. To clarify the last point on that list regarding being a relative or partner of the individual who died as a result of a crime - to be eligible to receive criminal injury compensation from the CICA UK as a result of that person’s death you must be one of the following:
A parent or child, (whether or not the natural parent or child) provided you were accepted as such by the deceased, a spouse who was formally married to and living with the deceased as husband or wife in the same household immediately before the date of death, a partner who, though not formally married, lived with the deceased in the same household as husband or wife immediately before the date of death and had been doing so for at least 2 years prior to that date. This includes same sex partners, a former spouse, provided that you were supported financially by the deceased immediately before the date of death, note – former spouses may be eligible for dependency only - they do not qualify for the standard amount of compensation.
Because of the sensitive nature of these criminal compensation cases, a trustworthy and caring solicitor will be your best friend in the battle. If you feel comfortable with your injury solicitor, then you will be able to get the verdict and the criminal compensation you've been hoping for.
