“We welcome the fact that our population is becoming better educated and informed and should not moan when citizens insist on their newly discovered legal rights, assisted by government-sponsored no-win, no-fee arrangements. Why should innocent people injured through no fault of their own put up and shut up when the law provides redress?

The expression “compensation culture” somehow suggests that it is morally reprehensible for people with legitimate claims to pursue actions for damages. Bad claims are rarely, in my experience, paid by insurance claims managers and plain silly claims — such as those arising out of burns caused by spilling hot coffee on oneself — have been and will continue to be rejected by our judges, who appear to be considerably more robust than their counterparts in the US.”
